Pumpkin Bong Tutorial + THC-Infused Pumpkin Seed Recipe

You’ve probably heard of using an apple as a pipe, but how about using a pumpkin as a bong? Pumpkin season is upon us, and we highly recommend giving this smoking apparatus a try. Not only is it an adorable creation to wow your friends with, but it makes for a uniquely tasty smoking experience as well!

Many people associate the flavor of pumpkins with pumpkin spice flavoring–cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.–but if you want to taste the true flavor of pumpkin, try using one as a bong. Shoutout to Nic Bailon at our Salem location for reminding me about this awesome fall festive cannabis craft!

You’ll need a pumpkin, a downstem, and a bowl piece to create your pumpkin bong.

To begin, choose your pumpkin. It should be big enough to accommodate some water and the downstem once it’s all emptied out. Beginners may want to look for a pumpkin on the smaller side so it doesn’t require quite as much lung capacity to inhale the smoke.

Next, carefully carve a lid into your pumpkin around the stem. Remove the lid and set it aside.

Then, the fun part: Don’t be afraid to get your hands messy! And don’t throw away those guts and seeds just yet; you might want them (more on that later)…

Fill the pumpkin with some water and replace the lid.

Next, choose a spot to place the downstem and carve a small hole to fit it. This part can be tricky, because the downstem should fit as snugly as possible–so take your time with it!

Drill or cut out another small hole for air intake (where your mouth will go). Optional: Insert a Moose Labs MouthPeace into the air intake hole for added comfort and a more bong-like experience.

Pack your bowl with the cannabis of your choosing, and light it up!

So what about those pumpkin guts & seeds from earlier? There are uses for both, but first, you’ll have to separate the guts from the seeds. The guts can be pureed in a food processor and used in recipes in place of pumpkin puree. The seeds make a great snack roasted in the oven, but we can do one better: Coat the pumpkin seeds in cannabis-infused coconut oil before roasting them to make a healthy, fall festive edible option!

Remember that pumpkins are biodegradable, so we don’t recommend using your pumpkin bong for any longer than a day or two. Once you’re done smoking out of it, just remove the downstem and it’s all prepped to make a jack-o’-lantern!

Fun Fall Snacks: Cannabis-Infused Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

October 31st is fast approaching and here at Herban Planet, we’re fully embracing the spirit! Over the course of this month, we’ll be sharing our Halloween tips and tricks with you so you’re ready to celebrate well in advance! And while it may be a little early to start decorating pumpkins, we’ll admit that we’re already searching Pinterest for “Pot Leaf Carving Templates” and digging out our serrated tools.

Carving jack-o-lanterns is a messy, gooey process, but the results are worth the clean up. Not only do you end up with a piece of artwork you can (hopefully) display proudly on your doorstep, but you can use the leftover pumpkin in a number of different ways: pumpkin seed brittle, pumpkin butter and (of course) pumpkin pie. But one of our favorite ways to use leftover pumpkin? Making the house smell cozy and inviting by tossing up some delicious cannabis-infused roasted pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin seeds are high in protein, fiber and fatty acids, making them a guilt-free snack. They’re perfect for passing the bong and watching Netflix or keeping you going during an all-day hike. There are endless ways to dress up roasted pumpkin seeds; it’s all a matter of personal preference. But here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy them! We’ll start with a recipe for plain cannabis-infused roasted seeds and move on to some different flavor variations. Try them out then get stoned and create your own fun combos! Vegan? Just substitute cannabis-infused olive oil for the cannabutter and you’re good-to-go.

Cannabis Infused Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

2 cups pumpkin seeds, cleaned and dried of pulp residue
2 tablespoons cannabutter (homemade recipe here)

1. Preheat oven to 325º.
2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
3. Pour the seeds into a mixing bowl and combine with the melted butter.
4. Spread onto a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, roughly 30 minutes.
5. Allow to cool and enjoy!

Each of these variations calls for you to prepare the original recipe until Step 3. At this point, add the ingredients listed for each of the variations below to the mixture of the pumpkin seeds and melted cannabutter. Make sure everything’s tossed together evenly then continue on as the recipe instructs!

Brown Sugar Cinnamon

Combine 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.

Curry and Lime

Combine 1 tablespoon curry powder, 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt, and 1/4 teaspoon cumin.

*Urfa is a delicious, smoky Turkish pepper with a mild heat. It can be found in Middle Eastern or international markets or ordered online. The flavor is well worth seeking out and adds a unique profile to this snack.

Cheesy Garlic

Combine 1/4 cup grated parmesan (or vegan parmesan substitute), 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon thyme, 1/2 teaspoon rosemary, and 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
