Purple Elephant Marijuana Strain Overview

Purple Elephant is a juicy strain tasting primarily of sweet and sour grapes infused with earthy and woody undertones. It provides an uplifting high, followed by relaxation and sleepiness due to its indica-dominant genetics.

Purple Elephant is a clone only strain with an indoor flowering period between 8-9 weeks. It can also be grown outdoors.

The Purple Elephant strain, a.k.a. Elephant Purple, is an indica-dominant hybrid by the late, legendary cannabis breeder JojoRizo (RIP). Apart from being a quality hybrid in its own right, it is famous for being a parent of the popular Grape Stomper strain.

What Is the Purple Elephant Cannabis Strain?

Purple Elephant is a cross of Purple Urkle and an unknown strain by Sensi Seeds. While some believe it is a perfectly-balanced hybrid, the consensus is that it’s indica-dominant (65:35). As Purple Elephant’s effects lean heavily towards the indica side of the spectrum, the latter is most likely.

After consuming the Purple Elephant strain, users experience an initial uplifting and euphoric high, followed by gentle relaxation. Based on reviews, as many as one-third of Purple Elephant consumers say that this strain makes them feel sleepy. This soporific quality provides further evidence that Purple Elephant is, in fact, indica-dominant. Given the nature of Purple Elephant’s effects, most choose to consume it in the evening.

One thing to be aware of is that the Purple Elephant strain has an average THC content of 20.5%. Therefore, Purple Elephant’s potency makes it unsuitable for a novice cannabis consumer or people who experience adverse reactions to high-THC strains.

Purple Elephant’s pungent aroma is quite a divisive aspect among fans of this strain. Some find its intense mix of sweet and sour grapes a little off-putting, whereas others consider it a cannasseur’s delight. Breaking open the buds reveals an earthy odor with subtle hints of pine.

The good news is that most find Purple Elephant’s flavor more pleasant than its fragrance. The sweet grape-like taste complemented by earthy, piney flavors makes up for its pungent aroma. Unfortunately, the smoke is pretty harsh on the throat and lungs, so you’ll likely end up coughing your way through the experience.

In between the sea of green and purple, the bright orange pistils provide a striking contrast. The plant has a generous coating of resinous trichomes that give it an almost frosted appearance.

The Purple Elephant

The origin The Purple Elephant remains a question unanswered. Many believe that these seeds are a collection of Purple Urkel Hybrid (most probably a Gage Green crossed with a Purple Urkel) or S1 seeds. Others say that it is a cross with a strain unknown. This rare strain has got a high yield and, technically speaking, it is a hash derivative of Urkel.

More about The Purple Elephant

How to grow The Purple Elephant pot plants?

It is a clone-only plant and cultivating the Purple Elephant calls for more attention. Its clipping should be managed by experienced people only, who will be able to take proper care of this cannabis.

Indoor growing vs. outdoor growing

When Purple Elephant is kept indoors, it should not be allowed to become tall and appropriate height should always be maintained. Good air circulation is also required for its ideal growth. The flowering time is two months and it can potentially produce a maximum of twelve ounces of buds per square meter.

The plant needs a Mediterranean climate for growth in the outdoors. Each plant yields twelve ounces (approximately) by the beginning October.

HPS (high-pressure Sodium) lights and organic nutrients would suffice. As it is a connoisseur or niche variety, its yield is considered satisfactory. It is recommended that the grower should wait for a little more time for more number of trichomes prior to harvesting.

Growing Techniques

Outdoor SCROG, i.e., the screen of green is suggested.

Recreational use

It promotes a moderate level of cerebral euphoria and a noticeable boost in energy (caffeine-like effect), drowsiness, and relaxing experience. It can prove to be a little too sedative for novices. However, veterans readily swear by its ability to provide an excellent sociable high and loads of laughter.

Taste & Aroma

Some people may find its smoke somewhat harsh that offsets with sweet notes of berry accompanied by a profile of woody and earthy flavor. Though some do find it reasonably pungent, Purple Elephant usually generates an aroma of sweet and a slightly tart blending of grapes. Once the bud is broken, the mixed smell of pine and earth becomes more pronounced.
